The building takes shape

A very damp day greeted us as we arrived at Old Sarum, but after a hot cup of tea we ventured out into the rain.
Our focus today was to continue placing the stakes for the wall of building 851. These stakes were considerably bigger than those used yesterday in building 547, and so driving these into the ground has been difficult. With these stakes we have also been replicating the hole profiles on the pointed ends.

Despite the dreary weather our valiant volunteers continued to do an amazing job of crushing chalk, the pile is growing steadily. We also had a surprise this morning when we found a toad living in the chalk pile, it almost managed to get itself squashed until it was rescued.

A lucky escape!

We also started the walls on building 547 today, which progressed nicely throughout the afternoon. By the end of the day we had woven a solid base to secure the walls before we start experimenting with different construction methods.
